Accessibility and Adjustments FAQs

What is the Disability Confident scheme?

Disability Confident is a government scheme which encourages employers to think differently about disability and to take action to improve how they recruit, retain and develop disabled people. You can read more about the Disability Confident scheme here.

IntoUniversity is a Disability Confident Committed Employer. We’ve outlined some key information below about what this means, but if you’d like to know more about this please do get in touch with us at jobs@intouniversity.org or by calling 02072430242 and asking to speak to a member of the HR team.

What guarantees do you offer to candidates with disabilities?

We will include a question on all our application forms asking you whether you self-identify as disabled. This is an optional question and you don’t have to complete it if you don’t want to.

As we’re a Disability Confident Committed Employer, we’ll look to guarantee any candidate who self-identifies as disabled automatic progress to the next stage of our recruitment process (provided that they meet the minimum criteria for the job they’re applying for).

For many of the positions that we advertise, this will mean a guaranteed invite to a selection day or interview. For some roles (including our graduate scheme), we receive so many applications that this isn’t practical, so we may need to guarantee progress to the final stage of shortlisting instead.

Do you provide reasonable adjustments during the application process?

Yes absolutely - we’re happy to discuss any specific requirements with you and we’ll always endeavour to be as accommodating as possible. Please either email jobs@intouniversity.org or call 02072430242 and ask for a member of the HR Team.

Can I submit my application in an alternative format?

If you require a different format of the application form, such as large print or Word format, please get in touch with jobs@intouniversity.org or call 02072430242 and ask for a member of the HR Team.

What support do you provide for video interviews?

For some recruitment rounds, in addition to written application forms, we ask candidates to complete a short video presentation to help us with our shortlisting process. If you don’t have access to a video-recording device like a phone or a laptop, then we will work with you to identify a separate way to complete the presentation. We will also ask you whether there are any adjustments that we can make to enable you to access the platform or to perform to the best of your ability.

Do you provide reasonable adjustments during selection days and interviews?

We are committed to providing reasonable adjustments at our selection days and interviews, both virtual and in person. For all candidates who are invited to selection days or interviews, we’ll ask you whether there are any adjustments that we can make to enable you to perform to the best of your ability on the day. If you highlight any adjustments to us, we’ll call you in advance to chat these through and to make sure that everything’s in place on the day.

How are reasonable adjustments provided for new starters?

As part of our on-boarding process, staff are asked if they require any adjustments to support them in their role. A member of our HR team will then have a conversation with the new starter to discuss these and to plan how any agreed adjustments can be implemented.
