Hafsa started attending IntoUniversity in Year 4 and has attended a variety of FOCUS programmes, as well as receiving one-to-one support through the Mentoring programme. Hafsa is very engaged with IntoUniversity and is eager to take on all opportunities that she can; she is a part of the Secondary Student Council, where she has planned and delivered presentations to Primary Academic Support students on various topics.
“[IntoUniversity is] a safe place, and a great place to meet new people from my school and other schools. I hope to achieve my dream goals by coming to IntoUniversity.”
“IntoUniversity helps me get better grades and I am able to learn new subjects that I did not know before. Before I came to IntoUniversity, I was a shy person and was not able to talk in front of people but now I am able to talk in front of lots of people and this has helped boost my confidence.”
“When I was in Year 6, I had help with my SATs during Academic Support and we had additional support during the holidays before my exams; it helped me achieve really good grades. Academic Support is a safe place where I can do my homework and if I am stuck, I have people who can help and support me with it.”
“During my mentoring meetings, I am able to work on goals related to future and academic goals. With my mentor, they have been helping me work on subjects I am finding difficult, so I am no longer stuck and able to achieve good grades to help me with my future.”
“IntoUniversity takes us to a variety of places. [When I went to] the Natural History Museum, I enjoyed learning new facts and seeing artefacts from the past. I got to explore a section on insects and learn about them. I have also been to the zoo with IntoUniversity which was very interesting; I saw many animals and how they live.”
“I enjoy meeting new people and helping out. I also really enjoy coming to IntoUniversity during the holidays as we get to learn about different subjects and learn from people who specialise in those subjects. For example, we had a ‘Careers’ session in October half-term, and we did activities relating to lots of careers like Engineering, Fashion and Creative Arts. We went on a trip
to The Guardian and we made our own front-page stories with the help of journalists.”
“I am part of the Student Council where we come up with ideas to support Primary and Secondary [students] as well as plan events for the community. It makes me feel proud as I am part of a group of people that wants to help out and make a difference.”
“In the future, I’m hoping to become a doctor and my goals are to visit new places, meet new people and learn new languages. I want to visit other countries and would like to be able to communicate with people.”
