Jayden’s story
Jayden began attending Primary Academic Support at our East Ham centre when he was in Year 4. Since coming to the centre, staff have seen him grow into a mature and hardworking student.
Academic Support has helped Jayden to take his studies more seriously. He has developed much higher expectations of himself, has become more resilient and now turns to the staff and volunteers when he faces challenges in his learning rather than giving up.
“At IntoUniversity I can talk to someone about their experiences of university. It helps me learn about university, to get my homework done and do some revision. I didn’t know much about university and what you can do before I came here – I thought you just get a job after GCSEs. But now I know quite a bit. It’s nice to come here, get my homework done and not stress about things. I feel like my confidence has improved.
One of my best memories of IntoUniversity was the trip to Allen & Overy. I met people who have high powered jobs and found out about their experiences and what it’s like to work under pressure. It also improved my communication skills and I learned a bit more about what it’s like working in London. I loved it!’
IntoUniversity has definitely helped me with careers and university. When I visited Queen Mary [University of London] with my mentor, it helped me see what university is about. I wouldn’t have had that opportunity if I didn’t come here. It’s helped with my concentration. In school, I wasn’t doing that well. IntoUniversity has helped me calm down and do my homework and get better grades.
