Rumani’s story
Rumani joined Academic Support at IntoUniversity Hackney Downs in 2018. He lives with his grandma and his aunt who are both appreciative of the additional support with his learning.
Rumani has particularly enjoyed our Primary Academic Support curriculum, which is based on a different university degree topic each term and supports with National Curriculum learning objectives.
“I keep coming back because I get to learn about new things such as Nutrition and Astronomy. My best memory of IntoUniversity is having the chance to practise for my SATs with adults. I also like getting the chance to fill in my tracker and think about what I have done well and sharing that with the staff.”
Rumani in the past has often been quite distracted in his learning but during a recent family evening, his aunt agreed that both at school and at home, Rumani has really improved his ability to focus on his work. Rumani has also had the opportunity to take on leadership opportunities by supporting his younger peers which has given him the opportunity to mature. “I think that I am now more focused because of attending IntoUniversity.”
Even though he is only in Year 6, Rumani has already begun to think about a future career. “I would like to become a footballer but also continue with my education. Maybe I could study something like Nutrition as it would help me as a footballer.”
