Dan works in Finance at The LEGO Group and first volunteered with IntoUniversity in 2017. Last year, he took on his first marathon in support of IntoUniversity so we spoke to him about why he wanted to support the charity through fundraising.
How did you get involved with IntoUniversity?
My first involvement with IntoUniversity was in 2017 through an organisation called BeyondMe that partnered teams of professional service colleagues with charities looking to deliver organisational change projects. Our team was lucky enough to partner with IntoUniversity to support how they communicated with colleagues from across the country. We had an amazing experience working with the team and I have been involved ever since.
What is your best memory of IntoUniversity?
My favourite memory of IntoUniversity was my first chance to see the staff in action delivering lessons to students. Up until that point, we had been working with staff members from Head Office and only hearing about the work with students while discussing matters which were less unique for IntoUniversity. Seeing the lessons made everything very real and it was a chance to see the impact that the team were all supporting and that we were helping in our own small way.
How do you feel about the growth of IntoUniversity from when you first became involved with it to now, supporting our 250,000th student?
My first interaction with IntoUniversity was at a time when they were expanding and it was clear that they had incredible ambitions to reach more students in more parts of the country. I am not surprised that their growth has been this impressive, it is testament to the drive and focus of the team members past and present. I count myself very lucky to have been on the fringes and a small part of a journey that [is now reaching] a quarter of a million students.
How has IntoUniversity impacted you and supported you in your career and or personal life?
I have consistently been inspired by the work and dedication shown by both IntoUniversity staff and students. I have taken lessons from everyone I have met to apply in my own personal life and I hope one day to shape my career towards supporting education.
Have you completed a challenge for IntoUniversity before?
I ran my first marathon in support of IntoUniversity last year. The event didn’t quite go to plan but I am proud of finishing it and the motivation of raising money for IntoUniversity was amazing on the day, even when things were tough.
Would you recommend others to take on a challenge event to support the work of IntoUniversity?
100% – challenge events can be so much fun and having a core mission of supporting an amazing cause like IntoUniversity gets you through all the tough moments in the prep and on the day.
