Anyone who has an enthusiasm for education, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to use their initiative. We ask that our Academic Support volunteers have a minimum grade 4/C or higher in Maths and English, National 5s or Standard Grade at Credit Level, grades 1-2 (or equivalent).
You will be supporting students with either their homework, revision, study skills or with IntoUniversity’s structured curriculum. Sessions are free and take place after school in our local learning centres. Depending on the session, you may work one-to-one or with a group of students.
We have separate Academic Support sessions depending on the age of students. This is a once a week commitment for an academic term or for 12 sessions across the academic year. Volunteering takes place at the following times, with some variation at individual centres:
Monday and Thursday for students aged 11-17 (England) and 12-18 (Scotland): 3.45pm-5.30pm
Tuesday and Wednesday for students aged 7-11 (England) and 7-12 (Scotland): 3pm-5pm
I look forward to my volunteer slot every week. Watching the children and seeing their desire to learn is inspiring. I think I get more out of this than I give.Alex, Academic Support volunteer
