Take part in one-off opportunities and share your experience of university with Year 6s during their Primary FOCUS Week.
As part of a Primary FOCUS Week, Year 6 students spend a whole day at a university. In the morning, they do a campus quiz exploring the university before interviewing a FOCUS Graduation Volunteer to hear a first-hand account of life at university. In the afternoon, they have their own mini graduation, where they perform presentations and receive certificates.
As a Primary FOCUS Volunteer, you will support IntoUniversity staff with the campus tour, and participate in a Q&A session about university life and education choices. You will also have the option to attend the graduation ceremony in the afternoon.
Who are we looking for?
Students from King's College London, Queen Mary, University of London, University College London or Imperial College London. You should be a confident communicator, and be prepared to talk positively and enthusiastically about your experience of university.
Why should you be a FOCUS volunteer?
- Inspire students from under-represented backgrounds to consider university as a future option
- Build rapport with young people from an inner-city London School
- Receive initial training and support throughout the day from IntoUniversity staff
- Take the lead, use initiative and develop communication skills
- Be part of a rewarding, challenging and fun experience
- Commit to as many or as few graduations as you choose
